Engineering Career Guide - MIG Welder

As a MIG Welder, your roles and responsibilities are; selecting, measuring, cutting, and joining appropriate metals to specifications as well as preparing metals and work surfaces to ensure safe and effective assemblage. 

Some more responsibilities are training Welding apprentices and mentoring recruits, operating cranes and other machinery to transport materials to welding worksites, and lastly determining correct gas ratios. 

For the role you will be required to have a High school diploma or similar, a completed apprenticeship or vocational training, the ability to maintain calm and focused under pressure as well as a relevant certificate from a welding association may be required. 

The role of a MIG Welder gives many opportunities such as becoming a Supervisor, instructor, Technician, or Inspector. This role offers many pathways as you can see. 

Generally, MIG Welders work 38-40hrs/Week usually this is 9-5 days but often offers opportunities for overtime. Salaries range between £25,000-£31,000 per annum depending on experience.
