Engineering Career Guide – Hydraulic Fitter

As a Hydraulic Fitter, there are many responsibilities such as installation, maintenance and repair of hydraulic systems, reading blueprints and diagrams while troubleshooting and diagnosing problems, welding, metal fabrication and electrical assembly. Some more key responsibilities are, to reassemble machines and equipment, operate drill press, grinders, engine lathe, or other machines to modify parts tested or fabricate experimental parts for testing. 

The skills and requirements for this job role are, a high school diploma or more preferably an associate’s degree in industrial equipment technologies, mechanics, precision systems service, HVAC maintenance or electronics is required. Some personal skills for this role would be the following; verbal communication, problem-solving, time management, customer service and mechanical skills.

Generally, a Hydraulic Fitter works 40hrs/Week and offers overtime if needed. Salaries range between £26,000-35,500 per annum depending on experience.
