Engineering Career Guide – CNC Machinist

As a CNC Machinist, many responsibilities need to be completed at the end of the day such as; writing and interpreting instructions and procedures to assemble equipment and products accurately, getting information from all relevant sources, welding and drafting. 

Some more key duties are, maintaining clear and honest communication at all times, keeping the work environment safe, learning and applying the latest relevant knowledge to the work as well as controlling machines and processes. 

Some skills and requirements for a CNC Machinist are the following; certificate in machine shop technology or machine tool technology/machinist, 1-2 years experience in mechanical assembly is preferred.

Some key skills required are; strong analytical, communication and computer skills, understanding of mathematics, ethical behaviour as well as attention to detail and self-motivation.

Generally, a CNC Machinist would work 40hrs/Week also offering overtime if needed, salaries ranging between £24,000-£34,000 per annum depending on experience.
